Gov. Mike Braun has appointed Daniel Burke to serve as Lake Superior Court Judge, with the new judge officially starting Monday on the bench.

Burke succeeds Senior Judge Jeffrey Miller, who had served as Judge Pro Tempore since January.

Miller replaced Judge Stephen Scheele, who was appointed to the Indiana Court of Appeals.

According to Braun’s office, as a Referee for the Lake County Circuit Court, Burke managed the filings for the docket, as well as presided over dissolution of marriage cases, and petitions for orders of protection and civil cases.

Burke also served as the Lake County Deputy Prosecutor, in which he appeared in court on a daily basis and primarily handled felonies, including murder and other high profile cases.

“As a lifelong resident of Lake County, I am humbled by the opportunity to continue serving my community,” Burke said in a release. “Lake County is a unique and special place, and I look forward to serving her people as long as they will have me.”

Burke studied classical studies at DePauw University and earned his Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University.

He is originally from Crown Point, where he and his wife Katherine currently reside with their three children.
