After a month of collecting used business wear, the New Lawyer Committee of the St. Joseph County Bar Association has more than 1,000 suits, shirts, shoes and other items to donate to Goodwill.

The bar association teamed up with Goodwill Industries of Michiana Inc. to put on the used suit drive, promoting the event with the slogan “Help balance the scale … put your suits on Goodwill’s Bar.” Collection boxes were distributed to the courthouses and law firms on April 3. The drive ended May 3.

Amy McGuire, executive director of the SJCBA, said she was impressed by the quality of donations received and the suit drive could become an annual event.

“Giving back to the community is important,” said Leone Halpin Law Office attorney Tony Rose, who chairs the New Lawyer Committee. “Our new lawyers appreciate the opportunity to coordinate a benefit to our community. The more senior attorneys did a great job going through their closets and providing us with plenty of donations.”

The Goodwill truck picked up the items from the Leone Halpin Law Office in South Bend Wednesday
