As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowWith the start of October comes the celebration of the ancient rite of the Red Mass. Two masses, meant to convey God’s blessing on those who serve the law, will be held in Indiana.
The first Red Mass will be Oct. 2 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Indianapolis. The St. Thomas More Society of Indianapolis, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, will host the service and the dinner which will follow.
Archbishop Joseph Tobin will preside at the Mass which begins with a procession of judges, dignitaries and clergy at 5:30 p.m. Afterward, guests will gather in the nearby Crowne Plaza Hotel for a reception at 6:45 p.m. and the dinner at 7:15 p.m. Justice Brent Dickson will be the keynote speaker.

The second Red Mass will be Oct. 6 at University of Notre Dame Law School. Most Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades, bishop of the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese, along with the Notre Dame Law School, the Department of Political Science and the Interdisciplinary Program in Constitutional Studies will host the celebration.
The service will start at 5:15 p.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. A reception will follow at the Eck Commons in Eck Hall of Law. Reservations are requested by emailing [email protected].
