On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) Distinguished Fellows gathered for a service project at the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana. Fellows and their families volunteered to prepare and serve a meal to around 40 guests who are family members of seriously ill or injured children.

The Fellows who volunteered were Kerry Hyatt Blomquist, Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence; Richard M. Blaiklock, Lewis Wagner LLP; Timothy C. Caress, Caress Law Group; Travis J. Bonnell, Allison Transmission Inc.; Debra Burns, GE Healthcare; The Hon. Robyn L. Moberly, U.S. Bankruptcy Court; Michael J. Hebenstreit, Whitham Hebenstreit & Zubek LLP; Christine Douglas, Harden Jackson LLC; Dana E. Stutzman, Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman PC; Colleen M. Powers, Hall Render Killian Heath & Lyman PC; David R. Hennessy, Attorney at Law; and Reynold T. Berry, Rubin & Levin PC. Several Fellows also brought family members to help out for the evening.

Volunteers prepared a meal of barbecue chicken, mashed potatoes, salad, coleslaw, dinner rolls and drinks. They provided all of the food and utensils for the dinner. Many guests also took a to-go container of the meal for a spouse who was still at the hospital.

In addition to their time and the dinner, Fellows donated other items to the guests at Ronald McDonald House, including hand sanitizer, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, laundry detergent, paper towels, bottled water, snacks, pumpkin bread and more.

The Fellows began volunteering at Ronald McDonald House in 2010 and have continued the service project every year since. The Ronald McDonald House is full nearly every night and can host 48 families in regular rooms. They also have an additional six sanitary suites for transplant families who need a clean environment but don’t need to be in the hospital. Dinners are hosted most nights for the guests.

The Ronald McDonald House of Indiana has been open since 1982 and has served meals to families of seriously ill or injured children ever since. More than 35,000 families from every Indiana county have stayed at the house. The Ronald McDonald House of Indiana also has a “House at Riley”, which has six sleeping rooms for families with children in the most critical situation and houses a day retreat for families with an inpatient at Riley Hospital for Children.•
