The proclamation coincides with an adoption information and awareness fair that the governor and First Lady Karen Pence are hosting Monday afternoon at the Statehouse.
National Adoption Day is also celebrated in November, which the Indiana trial courts recognize by allowing families and the press the chance to photograph and videotape adoption proceedings. Chief Justice Loretta Rush signed the order last month allowing the proceedings to be recorded.
Nine judges around the state are holding adoptions open to the media, starting Monday. They are:
• Vanderburgh Superior Judge Brett Niemeier on Nov. 10 at 8:30 a.m.
• Allen Superior Judge Charles Pratt on Nov. 18 at 8:30 a.m.
• Tippecanoe Superior Magistrate Judge Sean Persin on Nov. 20 at 9 a.m.
• Grant Superior Judge Dana Kenworthy on Nov. 21 at 9 a.m.
• Elkhart Circuit Magistrate Judge Deborah Domine on Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.
• Henry Circuit Judge Mary Willis on Nov. 21 at 1 p.m.
• Delaware Circuit Judge John Feick on Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
• Porter Superior Judge William Alexa on Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
• Johnson Circuit Judge Mark Loyd on Nov. 24 at 1:30 p.m.
The participating counties will welcome more than 95 children to court. Each year, there are around 3,400 adoptions in Indiana.
