Indiana Justice Brent Dickson was recently recognized with the Indiana Bar Foundation President’s Award for his many years of service on the bench and support of civic education. Foundation President Geoffrey Slaughter presented the honor to the surprised justice during the organization’s 2015 Civics Dinner on Dec. 13, 2015.

“Those of us who’ve had a chance to work with him, got to know him and appeared before him as lawyers, it has been a real privilege,” Slaughter said.

Dickson is retiring in the spring 2016, after which he hopes to continue to address the problems of unrepresented litigants and detaining defendants who cannot afford bail. He also plans to spend time playing the piano.

Dickson, left, shows off the award while standing next to his wife, Jan Aikman Dickson; his former law clerk Bruce Jones, associate at Cruser & Mitchell LLP; and Slaughter.
