The Indiana Attorney General’s Office is looking for owners of $722,266.99 in savings bonds and has issued public notices in each of Indiana’s major newspapers across the state to find them.

The process of returning the bonds has been difficult, the AG’s office said in a press release, because they contain outdated information. Names and addresses on the bonds are anywhere from 27 to 74 years old. The bonds will have likely passed by inheritance to people other than the original owner, which also makes it hard to find the rightful claimant.

In the last month, the Indiana Unclaimed Property Division has created more than 2,000 claims for matured bonds.

The attorney general’s office returned more than $88.5 million in property in 2015, and a total of $610 million has been returned since 2000.

To see the list of unclaimed bonds and to begin a claim, go to IndianaUnclaimed.gov. The Unclaimed Property Division’s toll-free number is 1-866-IN-CLAIM. This is a free service of the Indiana Attorney General’s Office.
