By Commissioner James K. Snyder, Marion Superior Court, 2016 IndyBar Criminal Justice Section Chair

All of us recall the stress of becoming a new attorney. Between the inevitibly mounting student loan debt and not knowing how you will fit in to the legal community, how could you possibly get involved or afford membership dues in the Indianapolis Bar Association? The Criminal Justice Section has the answer.

This year, we are proud to offer a new scholarship to attorneys in their first seven years of practice. The scholarship, awarded to eight individuals in public or private practice, will be given to those new attorneys who have begun or are interested in a career in the criminal justice system. It includes two years of membership to the IndyBar and also the Criminal Justice Section. It will include access to a minimum of eight FREE hours of CLE!

If you know anyone who might be eligible, please spread the word about this exciting opportunity. Applications are due Oct. 19, 2016. Go to indybar.org/crimjusscholarship to apply. Sponsorship opportunities are also available if you are interested in helping the next generation of lawyers.

September is Member Appreciation Month at the IndyBar. In continuing that appreciation, and to kick off our new scholarship, the Criminal Justice Section is hosting a member appreciation and new member recruitment party at the IndyBar offices on Oct. 13, 2016. The event goes from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and we’ll be serving drinks and light appetizers. Plus – there is NO COST to attend! You can register for the event at indybar.org/events. Please join us as we show appreciation to our current members, and illustrate to potential new members exactly how beneficial it is to be a member of the IndyBar. We hope to see everyone there!•
