An assistant clinical professor at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and a board member of the Marion County Bar Association will join elected officials and judicial clerks in Washington, D.C., Wednesday in calling upon the U.S. Senate to vote on the backlog of nominees to the federal bench.

Roxana Bell of IU McKinney and Noell Allen of the MCBA are scheduled to appear on the steps of the Supreme Court of the United States at 11 a.m. Wednesday for a press conference as part of the We Need Nine campaign to restore the court to nine justices. They will be accompanying former clerks of D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Merrick Garland and Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, and Cory Booker, D-New Jersey.

As senators return from a seven-week break, the clerks and advocates will be pressuring them to vote not only on Supreme Court nominee Garland, who has been waiting for more than 170 days for a hearing, but also on nominees to circuit and district courts across the country.

These other nominees include Winfield Ong who has been nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and former Indiana Supreme Court Justice Myra Selby who has been nominated for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
