Law students at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law are hoping to raise a record-breaking amount of money for a Hendricks County domestic violence shelter at the Women’s Caucus’ 40th annual auction this week.

This year’s auction, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday  will benefit Sheltering Wings, a domestic violence shelter in Hendricks Count that has served more than 13,000 people and families who have been victims of domestic violence, said Joey Keller, an IU McKinney 3L who is the co-chair of this year’s event. Although there is no specific fundraising goal for the 2017 auction, Keller said the Women’s Caucus is eager to top last year’s record-breaking amount of $20,000 raised for Coburn Place.

“They are doing wonderful things at Sheltering Wings, and we want to be able to support them as much as we can in their endeavors,” she said.

The live auction, which is hosted by IU McKinney professors, will feature items such as excursions, wine tastings, pasta dinners and underground tours with McKinney professors, as well as lunches and sporting events with prominent Indianapolis lawyers. The live auction will begin at 8 p.m.

Additionally, a silent auction lasting from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. will feature items such as fine wines and gift cards donated by local residents.

Beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the event, which will be held in the atrium of the law school at 530 New York St. in Indianapolis.  A photo booth will also be set up in the atrium.

Pre-sale tickets are available now through Thursday before the event for $10, which covers the cost of two complimentary drink tickets and a bid paddle. A $5 ticket will include non-alcoholic drinks. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $15 for alcoholic drinks, and $10 for non-alcoholic drinks.
