David Lynn McCord, a chief deputy prosecutor, has been appointed as judge of Henry Circuit Court 3, Gov. Eric Holcomb’s office announced Tuesday.

A longtime resident and attorney in Henry County, McCord has experience in private practice as well as in the local prosecutor’s office. His 15 years of general practice included handling matters involving landlord-tenant, family, real estate, municipal estate planning and personal injury. He has served as a deputy prosecutor since 2012 and became chief deputy prosecutor in 2014.

He will be filling a seat currently held by Judge Pro Tempore E. Edward Dunsmore who received a temporary appointment in late 2016 to the New Castle courthouse. Dunsmore helped cover the vacancy that was created when former Henry Circuit Judge Mary Willis was tapped to be the first chief administrative officer of the Indiana Supreme Court.

McCord is a member and past president of the Henry County Bar Association and is serving on the boards of directors for both the Henry County Community Foundation and Friends of Hope. A graduate of Ball State University, he received his law degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1993.

McCord will be sworn into office at a date to be determined.
