Last July, Whitley Superior Judge Douglas M. Fahl temporarily left his courtroom in Columbia City after he was called to active duty as part of the Indiana National Guard Judge Advocate General Corps. Fahl, a major in the Corps, was at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he heard cases involving U.S. forces stationed there.
Kosciusko County deputy prosecutor J. Brad Voelz was appointed judge pro tempore in Fahl’s absence, but in an order posted Thursday, the Indiana Supreme Court announced Fahl has completed his deployment and is ready to return to the Whitley Superior Court bench. Voelz’s appointment as judge pro tempore will expire at 11:59 p.m. on July 16, and Fahl will resume his Indiana judicial duties on July 17.
