The U.S. Senate confirmed Notre Dame law professor Amy Coney Barrett to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals today on a 55-to-43 vote.

Both Indiana Senators, Todd Young, Republican, and Joe Donnelly, Democrat, supported her nomination and confirmation to the bench.

Barrett was nominated by President Donald Trump in May to fill the Indiana seat vacated when Judge John Tinder retired in 2015. She clerked for the late Associate Justice Antonin Scalia of the United States Supreme Court and was an associate at Miller Cassidy Larroca & Lewin before pursuing a career in academics.

She has taught at Notre Dame since 2002 and previously taught at George Washington University Law School and was a visiting professor at the University of Virginia School of Law.
