The Indiana Court of Appeals is headed north this week to hear an oral argument in Tippecanoe County.

A panel of judges Margret Robb, Cale Bradford and Robert Altice will hear the case of Kory Tremaine Johnson v. State of Indiana, 82A05-1710-CR-02263, on Thursday at the Ivy Tech Community College campus in Lafayette.

After being arrested for felony criminal recklessness and attempted residential entry, Kory Johnson’s conviction of misdemeanor carrying a handgun without a license was also enhanced to a felony, and he was sentenced to an aggregate term of seven years. The trial court also revoked Johnson’s probation in a separate cause, so the Indiana Court of Appeals granted his motion to consolidate his appeals in both causes.

On appeal, Johnson argues the trial court erred in granting the state’s motion to continue the trial in violation of his speedy trial rights. He also alleges his convictions violate double jeopardy protections.

The appellate panel will hear the case at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Room 1333 of Ivy Hall, 3101 S. Creasy Lane, Lafayette.
