Each year, the Women and the Law Division presents its Mentorship Award, which seeks to honor a female legal professional who has exhibited exceptional efforts to be a mentor to other women in the profession. This year, the division has selected Debbie Caruso of Rubin & Levin PC as the honorable recipient.

Caruso practices in the areas of bankruptcy, debtors and creditors’ rights, court-supervised receiverships, and commercial litigation. She is a Chapter 7 bankruptcy panel trustee for the Southern District of Indiana, Indianapolis Division, where she has served since 1997. She was appointed as the trustee in the Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases of ITT Educational Services, Inc., which is the largest Chapter 7 case filed in Indiana. Caruso has served a number of years in various positions on the IndyBar Board of Directors and was named a 2017 Indianapolis Business Journal Woman of Influence, among many other honors.

Her nominator, Meredith Theisen, states, “Debbie has been the biggest influence in my professional career and continues to be even as we have transitioned from mentor-mentee to fellows partners of our law firm. I would not be where I am today without her. Over the years, she has continued to train me and help me develop the necessary skills needed in our practice of law. There are numerous female attorneys that she has taken time to meet with, give advice and offer assistance. She is an amazing example of what a mentor should be, and as a result, she has encouraged me to do the same with younger female attorneys. I can only hope that I can be as good of a mentor to another female attorney as Debbie has been to me.”

Honor Caruso and other outstanding female legal professionals at the WLD Mentoring Program Kick-Off Luncheon on February 27. Register at indybar.org/events by February 20!•
