The Indiana Supreme Court has appointed a temporary judge to fill in for Steuben Circuit Court Judge Allen N. Wheat, who is taking a medical leave of absence.

Senior Judge David Laur will be the court’s judge pro tempore. Laur, the Noble Circuit Court judge before his retirement in 2016, will be compensated at the same rate as Wheat.

The (Angola) Herald Republican reported in November that Wheat would not seek re-election this year. He was first elected in 1994.

Steuben County Prosecutor Jeremy Musser is the only candidate seeking the judicial post in the May primary.
