The men are being prosecuted in the U.S. District Court of Southern Indiana.
The defendants, identified as 36-year-old Martin Cortez-Lopez, 46-year-old Jamie Ortiz-Guzman, and 28-year-old Amin Reynosa-Diaz, were arrested in Bloomington or Evansville between April 29 and May 1.
Each of them has been convicted of other crimes in Indiana or Florida. They all face other pending charges in the United States.
Cortez-Lopez is currently facing charges in Monroe County for possession of cocaine and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person. He previously was convicted in Florida on charges of resisting an officer with violence, possession of a controlled substance, and disorderly intoxication.
Ortiz-Guzman also is facing charges in Monroe County for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury. He previously was been convicted of OWI in Indiana.
Reynosa-Diaz is facing charges in Virginia for driving while intoxicated and is wanted on multiple warrants for failing to appear in court. He previously was convicted of domestic battery in Indiana
If convicted of the federal allegations, each man faces between two and 10 years in prison.
The charges are part of the nationwide initiative Operation Take Back America, which Department of Justice describes as marshaling national resources to “repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.”
