Tate Coulter, an associate at Barnes & Thornburg, is no exception, helping 4-H’ers prepare for the competitions as best they can.
Coulter himself participated in 4-H when he was younger and now is giving back to the community that he says taught him so much.
Now he’s also able to use his law career to inform his work as a farmer, and vice versa.
Coulter runs a pig farm called TamsCan in Albany, near Muncie. He specializes in intellectual property and trademark law at Barnes & Thornburg, and even works with clients he interacts with through his farm.
“We have a lot more clients within the [agriculture] space and within the livestock industry, so it’s really unique to kind of see that overlap and to work with that company in both my capacity as a farmer and as an attorney working on some of their intellectual property stuff,” Coulter said.
“It’s allowing me to, one, better my business, but also learn,” he added. “So then when I have opportunities arise with (agricultual) clients, I can kind of leverage that, because not only do I have the experience, I’m doing the exact same things they are.”
