A federal judge refused Thursday to throw out the classified documents prosecution of Donald Trump, turning aside defense arguments that a decades-old law permitted the former president to retain the sensitive records after he left office.

Indianapolis police to step up enforcement of curfew law after weekend shootings

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will increase its enforcement of Indiana’s curfew law for those under the age of 18 following a shooting in downtown Indianapolis that wounded seven youths 16 and younger.

Appeals court upholds injunction against Indiana abortion ban but wants it to be more limited

Ken Falk, ACLU of Indiana legal director, said the appeals court decision reflects the “clear directive” that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act “protects religious freedom for all Hoosiers.” The Indiana Attorney General’s Office did not immediately respond to Indiana Lawyer’s request for comment on whether the state would appeal the decision.

Criminal. Appeals from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, Indianapolis Division. Chief Judge Tanya Walton Pratt. Affirms conviction and sentence of Christopher Tate for one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and heroin, two counts of distribution of methamphetamine and one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute it, and the conviction and sentence of Sandra Kellogg on one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute it. Finds the district court’s employment of the manager-supervisor enhancement did not constitute reversible error.

Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan declared the request untimely, ruling that Trump’s lawyers had “myriad opportunities” to raise the immunity issue before they finally did so last month, well after a deadline for pretrial motions had already passed.

Civil tort.  Affirms the Marion Superior Court’s dismissal of Safeco Insurance’s  third-party spoliation and negligence claims against the Michaelis Corporation. Finds the trial court did not err in dismissing Safeco’s amended complaint against Michaelis. Also finds the trial court did not err in dismissing Safeco’s negligence claim because it is substantively a third-party spoliation claim. Justice Christopher Goff concurs in part and dissents in part with separate opinion.

Indiana Supreme Court split in rejection of inventory search case
