Criminal. Affirms Levon Coleman’s convictions of three counts of Level 6 felony fraud. Finds the Hamilton Superior Court did not abuse its discretion when it denied Coleman’s motion for a mistrial. Also finds there is sufficient evidence to support the conviction. 

Terre Haute denied summary judgment on ex-employee’s sexual, retaliatory harassment claims

A former city of Terre Haute employee alleging he was forced to resign due to sexual harassment in the workplace partially defeated a motion for summary judgement against him Tuesday. A federal judge determined the city couldn’t stand up to the man’s claims for retaliatory and sexual harassment or negligent supervision.

Indianapolis Schools pays $600K to settle counselor sex abuse lawsuits

Indianapolis Public Schools paid about $600,000 to settle two lawsuits in a case involving a former school counselor who was accused of having sex with students.

Attorneys from opposite ends of the state were honored for their contributions to the legal profession Friday during the Indiana State Bar Association Solo/Small Firm Conference. Joseph D. O’Connor, an attorney with Bunger & Robertson in Bloomington, and Jack L. Walkey of Ball Eggleston P.C. in Lafayette each received the GP Hall of Fame Award from the ISBA’s General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Section.

Goff discusses path to bench, sentencing reform efforts

Goff spoke about his legal and judicial career during a Friday afternoon session at the Indiana State Bar Association Solo/Small Firm Conference, held over the weekend in French Lick.

Barker rejects request to keep closed South Bend abortion clinic pending appeal

Despite the Indiana Attorney General’s efforts, a federal judge has denied a request to stay the opening of what could become the state’s newest abortion clinic. Indiana Southern District Senior Judge Sarah Evans Barker on Friday rejected Attorney General Curtis Hill’s request to keep closed the doors of a South Bend abortion clinic until the state’s appeal of the matter can be considered.
