Two Indiana Court of Appeals judges are being recognized this

month by members of the Indiana legal community.

Altice

Judge Robert Altice has been named the 2019 Indiana State Bar Association Outstanding Judge of the Year, while Judge Patricia Riley is the Outstanding Alumna of the Year at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

Altice was selected for the ISBA award through a peer nomination process that was open to all ISBA members. According to the ISBA, the Outstanding Judge Award “recognizes those who foster mentorship, civility, competence and respect for the judicial system.”

Altice will be honored during an Aug. 29 reception from 4-6 p.m. at the Renaissance Indianapolis North Hotel in Carmel. Registration is available online until Aug. 14.

Riley

Riley was honored by IU McKinney during a luncheon at 11 a.m. Friday. She graduated from the Indianapolis law school in 1974 after earning her undergraduate degree at IU Bloomington in 1971.

According to the law school, Riley serves on the Board of Visitors of the Robert H. McKinney School of Law Alumni Association. Outside of the law school, she is a member of the Indiana Judges Association, Indianapolis Bar Association, Marion County Bar Association and the ISBA, where she was formerly the Appellate Practice Section chair.

Nationally, Riley serves in the American Bar Association’s Judicial Division and the National Association of Women Judges, the law school said. Internationally, Riley in 2008 co-founded the Legal Aid Centre of Eldoret, Kenya; in 2011 she observed International Criminal Court and International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague, Netherlands; in 2012 participated in the Sino-U.S. Law Conference in Beijing; and in 2013 attended the Justice Academy of Turkey.
