Lawyers gathered in Indianapolis on Friday to learn about practical technological solutions and tools to better equip their day-to-day legal practices.

The Indianapolis Bar Association hosted its first Tech Show at the Hilton Indianapolis Hotel on Friday, described as a one-stop-shop for knowledge and demonstrations of current popular software and tech products.

The day-long event consisted of a variety of CLE opportunities, including discussions on virtual court resources, time and billing software, digital marketing, virtual reception options, legal research and entering a world of mandatory vaccinations.

Tech representatives were also on-site, demonstrating software and products that address cloud accounting, professional liability and cyber insurance, IT consulting, law practice management and legal research, among other things.

The idea for the event originated from the IndyBar’s Law Practice Management Committee as a way of providing education to members on existing technology to aid them in running a firm and practicing law, said IndyBar legal services specialist Mykaela King.

“I think a big trigger for this idea was the shift in the way lawyers practice now … it is drastically different from before the pandemic,” King said. “The committee felt that law firms, especially solo and small firms, had to quickly learn to utilize technology in order for their practices to stay afloat.

“Many attorneys get overwhelmed with the thought of trying to pick the right technology, let alone figuring out how to use it,” King continued. “Our hope was to bring tech to them to help make those decisions.”
