The Indiana Supreme Court is seeking comment on three issues: clarifying what constitutes pro bono work; change of venue; and whether custodial police interrogations should be recorded.

The Rules Committee is recommending clarifications to Professional Conduct Rule 6.1 as to what types of activities do or do not qualify as pro bono work. The committee is also recommending after a final decree in dissolution of marriage and paternity cases that a party shall not be entitled to a change of judge in connection with a petition to modify, except when a legally recognized reason for a change of venue is shown.

More details about these specific proposed changes can be found at http://www.in.gov/judiciary/rules/proposed. Comments may be sent to Lilia G. Judson, executive director, Indiana Supreme Court Division of State Court Administration, 30 S. Meridian St., Suite 500, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

The Supreme Court has posted information in favor of and against recording custodial police interrogations on http://www.in.gov/judiciary/notices/comment.html. The Web site also allows for respondents to complete a survey electronically.

Comments on the interrogation issue may be sent to Division of State Court Administration, attn: Tom Carusillo, 30 S. Meridian St., Suite 500, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Comments for all three proposed changes may be sent by e-mail to [email protected]. All comments must be received by April 30.
