A suspended attorney has pleaded guilty to stealing $283,000 from his clients during dozens of transactions.

Daniel E. Serban entered a plea agreement Monday with the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, pleading guilty to felony theft and corrupt business influence and agreeing to pay that amount in restitution in exchange for two other felony counts being dismissed. A sentencing hearing is set for May 13 before Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck.

The Indiana Supreme Court indefinitely suspended Serban’s law license on March 18 after the disciplinary commission filed an emergency petition seeking the suspension. As of that date, Serban was still practicing law. The Roanoke lawyer, who’s been practicing since 1982, was charged in September with failing to distribute money that had been paid into his law office’s trust account. That amount was $283,000, with $89,000 designated to one woman’s estate.
