A former general counsel in the Indiana Department of Labor has been appointed by Gov. Mike Pence to lead the agency.

Rick Ruble, who has been serving as interim commissioner since September, was named Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor Monday. Prior to this role, Ruble served as deputy commission of labor and general counsel within the agency beginning in 2007.

Ruble also worked in the department’s research and statistics division for 10 years before graduating from law school in the late 1990s and entering private practice.

A native of Martinsville, Ruble earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his law degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
