Indiana responds to convicted ex-officer’s appeal

Indiana has responded to a former Indianapolis police officer's appeal of his convictions in a fatal drunken driving crash.

Former officer David Bisard was convicted last year on nine counts for driving drunk in his police cruiser and crashing into a group of motorcyclists, killing one and seriously injuring two others.

Bisard appealed his convictions in July, arguing that a judge should have declared a mistrial after a juror violated his orders by conducting Internet research on the case and passing his findings onto other jurors.

WTHR-TV and WRTV-TV report that in Tuesday's court filing, the Indiana Attorney General's office says Bisard received a fair trial and his conviction should stand. The state also says the judge didn't err when he refused to declare a mistrial.
