Indiana lawmakers will consider the proposal from the Indiana Department of Administration during a State Budget Committee hearing Friday. The agency says it wants the money because officials are worried about security issues regarding six doors that let government employees enter and exit the Statehouse.
The Indianapolis Star reports Pence said Wednesday that the price tag includes the cost of a new public announcement system in addition to new turnstile security doors. He says he's asking budget officials to make improvements “in the most efficient way for taxpayers.”
Pence also noted that 20,000 schoolchildren visited the Statehouse over the past six months.
