Judge: Indianapolis house blast defendant to keep lawyers

A judge has rejected a request by a defendant in an Indianapolis house explosion that killed two people to dismiss his attorneys and represent himself one month before his trial is scheduled to begin.

Allen Superior Judge Fran Gull denied Bob Leonard's request Tuesday. WTHR-TV reported Leonard is upset his trial was moved to Fort Wayne and claims his attorneys don't keep him informed.

Leonard is scheduled to go on trial Jan. 19 on murder, arson and conspiracy charges stemming from the 2012 blast that killed a couple living next door to the explosion and destroyed or damaged more than 80 homes.

Leonard's half brother Mark Leonard was sentenced in August to life in prison without parole for planning the explosion at the home of his former girlfriend.
