A former employee of Children’s Choice Learning Center at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis was convicted in federal court Friday of seven counts of production and attempted production of child pornography.

Ali Al-Awadi, 22, was convicted after a four-day jury trial before Judge Tanya Walton Pratt in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. According to a statement from U.S. Attorney Josh J. Minkler, Al-Awadi molested a 4-year-old girl in his care while she was napping and took several explicit photos of her on his cellphone.

“The jury convicted Al- Awadi of the hideous and terrifying crime that he committed,” said Minkler. “Because of their decision, our community is a safer place to raise our children. This office will not hesitate to use the federal hammer in the most severe way possible against anyone who victimizes a child.”

Al-Awadi faces a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of life in prison, federal prosecutors said. No sentencing date has been set.
