Indiana Rules of Trial Procedure Rule 77 on court records has been amended to reflect updates in technology at the courts.

Among the changes noted in a four-page order released by the Indiana Supreme Court Monday, the clerk of the circuit court can maintain required records on paper, microfilm or electronically.

Under the amended rule that begins Thursday, courts that have a scanning system approved under Administrative Rule 6 that directly scans or electronically files documents into the court case management system and saves a digital file of a document as part of the electronic case file do not have to maintain a separate record of judgments and orders.

The order, which also includes changes to indexes and electronic posting of court records, is available here.
