IU Maurer students provide free tax help

Students at Indiana University Maurer School of Law are partnering with other IU students to offer more than 600 hours of volunteer tax preparation services in the coming months.

The Maurer law students, together with students from the Kelly School of Business and the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs, are helping Bloomington-area residents file their state and federal income taxes from Jan. 30 to March 31. Participants must have an annual income of less than $54,000 and cannot own a business or have received income from the sale of stocks, mutual funds or homes.

Roughly 100 students have volunteered to participate in the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, with each student committing to at least six hours of volunteer time. More information about the volunteer program can be found here.
