Attorney online access extended to mental health, adoption records

Attorneys registered with Indiana’s Odyssey case management system will now be able to access mental health and adoption documents for which they are the attorney of record after the Indiana Supreme Court approved a new task force recommendation.

The court approved the Advisory Task Force on Remote Access to and Privacy of Electronic Court Records’ recommendation to extend attorney access to mental health and adoption records in an order dated Feb. 16. The task force’s recommendation comes one year after the Supreme Court issued an order allowing Indiana attorneys who register with mycase.in.gov to have access to all unsealed documents for which they are the attorney of record.

The court’s February 2017 order also approved task force recommendations to allow the public to access certain orders in civil and criminal cases for free. The 22-member task force is charged with continually reviewing best practices related to online access to court records. Its next meeting is scheduled for June 8.
