The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee on Monday announced one attorney and five magistrate judges as finalists to fill two judicial vacancies.

The first set of finalists are for the vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of Judge Heather Welch. They include:

  • Magistrate Judge Polly Beeson
  • Magistrate Judge Marie Kern
  • Magistrate Judge Terrance Tharpe

The second set of finalists are for the vacancy created by the death last month of Judge Shatrese Flowers. They include:

  • Andrew Blaiklock
  • Magistrate Judge Tara Melton
  • Magistrate Judge James Snyder

The finalists were chosen after the committee interviewed a total of 20 candidates on Friday and Monday for the vacancies in the Criminal and Family divisions of the Marion Superior Court.

The six names will now be submitted to Gov. Eric Holcomb, who will have 60 days to choose Welch and Flowers’ successors.
