The University of Evansville has reached a settlement in a federal lawsuit accusing a former theater professor of sexually harassing a student.

Former university student Alexis Seay filed the lawsuit last year, accusing R. Scott Lank of racial and sexual harassment, including unwanted touching and comments. The tenured professor was subsequently fired by the school.

An attorney representing Lank declined to comment on the settlement. Lank had denied Seay’s accusations in earlier court filings.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports the proposed settlement has not yet been filed in court. A federal magistrate gave Seay’s attorney 30 days from May 30 to file an order dismissing the lawsuit.

The lawsuit included accusations that the school violated Title IX provisions barring gender discrimination in educational programs and activities receiving federal assistance.
