Applicants are being sought for an upcoming judicial vacancy in Lake Superior Court next month as a longtime judge prepares to retire.

The Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission has begun the process of selecting a replacement for Lake Superior Judge John Pera, who will retire from Superior Court, Civil Division, Room Six on July 1.

Indiana Supreme Court Justice and commission chair Geoffrey Slaughter announced Monday that applications to fill Pera’s seat on the bench are now available online.

Applications must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal by noon Central Daylight Time on July 22. The list of applicants will be made available after the deadline and the Commission expects to meet in August in Crown Point to interview the applicants.

Established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1973, the Commission is tasked with submitting to Gov. Eric Holcomb "the three most highly qualified candidates from among all those eligible" for appointment when a vacancy arises.
