Chris Daley, who joined the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana as executive director less than two years ago, has parted ways with the organization “following a mutual decision” between Daley and the ACLU of Indiana’s board of directors, the group announced Friday morning.

The Indianapolis-based organization said Legal Director Ken Falk and Finance & Operations Director Tarah Reid are now jointly serving as interim co-executive directors until a new one is found.

A press release from the organization did not provide a reason for Daley’s departure.

“Following a mutual decision with the board, Chris Daley has concluded his service as executive director,” the release said. “The organization thanks him for his contributions and wishes him well.”

Falk, an adjunct professor of law at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, has been legal director of ACLU of Indiana since 1996. Reid has overseen the organization’s financial operations, human resources and board communications since February 2023.

“The ACLU of Indiana remains steadfast in its mission to protect and advance civil liberties,” Tamara Winfrey-Harris, chair of the board, said in written remarks. “At a time when fundamental rights are under near-constant attack in Indiana and across the nation, our commitment to advocacy, litigation, and community partnership remains unwavering. Our staff and leadership are strong, our programs are vibrant, and our mission continues without interruption.”

Daley, an Indiana native and Indiana University graduate, previously served as executive director of the Indiana Association of Resources and Child Advocacy.
