A central Indiana elder law firm this week opened a new space in Zionsville where families can more comfortably confront life transitions.

Applegate & Dillman Elder Law, a central Indiana-based elder law firm with locations in Indianapolis, Zionsville and Carmel, launched the Applegate & Dillman Elder Law Mediation Center on Wednesday. The center offers “a comfortable, quiet setting for families to manage life transitions with the help of trusted, trained professionals,” the firm said.

Three registered mediators with extensive experience in resolving elder and adult family disputes will be available to work with families at the center.

“The Mediation Center provides a safe space to address disagreements; brainstorm new and creative solutions; and shape outcomes that consider everyone’s needs and align best for the elder,” the law firm said in Sept. 8 announcement.

Specifically, the firm said its mediation center will offer clients a less painful process than going to court, a cost-effective way of resolving disputes and a better outcome for all parties involved.

Disagreement types that will be addressed at the center include:

  • Disputes among adult siblings.
  • Financial decisions.
  • Residence decisions.
  • Competency and capacity issues.
  • Selling of property.
  • Medical treatment decisions.
  • Guardianship issues.
  • Administration of estates and trusts.
  • Will and trust contests.

“We saw an overwhelming need for a safe space in which families can work through disputes that arise when navigating elder care and financial issues rather than putting everyone through a long, expensive courtroom battle,” Lisa Dillman, Applegate & Dillman’s managing attorney, said in a Wednesday news release. “The Mediation Center is the perfect solution and is available to our attorneys, Hoosier families and the entire Central Indiana legal community.”
