Applications are now open for an upcoming vacancy on the Marion Superior Court, the Indiana Supreme Court announced Monday.

The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee, chaired by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David, has begun the process of selecting a new superior court judge to fill the vacancy left by Marion Superior Judge Mark A. Jones, who has tendered his resignation, effective Jan. 8.

Applications are available online and must be submitted no later than noon ET on Dec. 16 through the Indiana Courts Portal.

The committee will meet Jan. 18 and, if necessary, Jan. 19, to interview applicants in the FUSE West conference room on the second floor of the South Tower at Capital Center, 201 N. Illinois Street, Indianapolis.

The committee will select three finalists from among the pool of applicants, whose names will be submitted to Gov. Eric Holcomb. Holcomb will have the final say on who will succeed Jones.

Jones was one of the first Marion Superior Court judges to be appointed through merit-based selection. Holcomb selected him in 2018 to succeed Judge Thomas Carroll.

The announcement of the vacancy does not give a reason for Jones’ resignation.
