Mike Braun announced on Saturday he had appointed a new secretary of public safety and said he plans to announce “additional personnel updates and efficiencies” in the cabinet-level office early this week.
Braun said that Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott will serve as public safety secretary in addition to his position overseeing the state’s police force. The announcement came one day after Jennifer-Ruth Green resigned the position.
“Hoosiers will be safe with Anthony and the state police setting the tone for all state government public safety agencies,” Braun said in a statement on X.
Scott replaces Green, who said on Facebook that she is “off to military duty.” The Governor’s Office said that Green resigned from the post on Friday.
Green is the third high-level Braun administration leader to resign in recent weeks. The Governor’s Office said last Thursday that Jeff Blade would exit the Indiana Economic Development Corp., which he had led since January. Indiana Commerce Secretary David Adams called said that change was part of an “evolution” of the IEDC.
Also, longtime Indiana Utility Consumer Counselor William Fine retired, effective Aug. 31. Braun announced Sept. 3 that he had appointed Abby Gray, who previously directed legal operations for the agency, to the top position.
The governor said he has directed Gray to evaluate utility companies’ profits and “find cost-saving measures to ease the financial burden on Hoosiers.”
And the Indiana Capital Chronicle reported last week that two members of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission had announced plans to resign early, joining a third whose term had already lapsed.
The state’s public safety secretary oversees law enforcement, emergency preparedness and public safety policy development.
Braun announced last December—a few weeks after the election—that he would appoint Green to the newly created post. A combat veteran, Green was most recently the deputy commander of the 11th Operations Group at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, a joint naval-support base and U.S. Air Force base in Washington, D.C. She is a former Air Force special agent and an FAA-certified pilot.
“I want to thank Jennifer-Ruth Green for her service in my cabinet,” Braun said on X. “She was a part of a transformative time in Indiana’s history, and we wish her the best of luck on her next endeavor.”
Green thanked Braun on Sunday for the appointment and said she was “honored to have worked alongside so many great leaders around the state.”
Scott, she said, “will do an amazing job in this position, and I look forward to watching his successes.”
Braun appointed Scott to the position of superintendent after last year’s election, saying at the time that his “extensive experience at every level of the Indiana State Police uniquely qualifies him to lead our state’s law enforcement agency.”
Scott, then a state police captain, had been an area commander responsible for enforcement and investigative operations across multiple state police districts.
“His proven track record of success, commitment to community partnerships and focus on both public safety and operational efficiency align perfectly with our vision for a safer Indiana,” Braun said in November 2025.
Scott, a 2019 graduate of the FBI National Academy, became a state trooper in 1996, over the years moving up to be a detective, district investigative commander, lieutenant and captain.
