U.S. District Court Judge Philip Simon sentenced Jonathon Koskela, 21, to the prison term, which will be followed by 10 years of supervised release, Acting U.S. Attorney Tina Nommay announced last week.
Simon also ordered Koskela to pay $83,500 in restitution to the victims of the offense.
According to court documents, Koskela knowingly distributed child sexual abuse material from Sept. 10, 2023, through Jan. 21, 2024,.
The Chicago Tribune reported the social media site Kik notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Koskela uploaded child porn videos to groups he created – with some featuring adult men having sex with young children.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (Chicago and Charlotte), with assistance from the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Indiana State Police, the Indiana State Police Digital Forensics Unit, the Cedar Lake Police Department, and the Boone Police Department, Boone, North Carolina.
