Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb has been admitted to the hospital with a case of pneumonia, his office announced Friday afternoon.

“Gov. Holcomb went to the doctor Thursday afternoon thinking it was the flu, but he was diagnosed with pneumonia,” Erin Murphy, press secretary for Gov. Holcomb, said in a written statement. “Out of an abundance of caution he was admitted to the hospital and he’s responding well to treatment.”

Holcomb, 54, had planned to present the 2022 Sachem Award to volunteer Patricia Koch on Friday, but the event was rescheduled to Dec. 9.

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch said she has been in contact with people close to the governor.

“I’ve been in contact with his staff today, and it’s good to hear the governor is resting well and responding to treatment,” Crouch said. “I will be praying for a speedy recovery for him
