A Kosciusko County jury found Jammy Stacy of Elkhart guilty on Thursday of one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury. Stacy, 43, now faces up to 17 years in prison at her Aug. 31 sentencing, WSBT-TV reported.
Stacy, 43, is one of five people accused of severely abusing the boy and the third person convicted in the case.
Police discovered the boy’s injuries in March 2018 when they were called to a home in Nappanee, about 30 miles southeast of South Bend, and found him with visible injuries in various stages of healing.
The child had injuries that included pieces of his scalp missing, a portion of the septum in his nose cut out, arms broken in multiple places and lacerations on his face that appeared to have resulted from fingernails being dug into his checks.
Court documents allege that the boy’s mother and stepfather did not call police because they were told not to by Stacy. Her aunt and mother have also been charged in the boy’s abuse.
