According to MyCase, Michael Cable, 52, was been charged with intimidation of a judge or bailiff, a level 5 felony. He was charged on May 15 in Marion Superior Court, but the case had been sealed until Tuesday.
Level 5 felonies in Indiana are punishable by a prison sentence of one to six years and a fine of up to $10,000.

The court attempted to hold an initial hearing in the case on Monday, but Cable interrupted the proceeding several times and wouldn’t respond to basic questions, according to MyCase. The court ordered a stay of the proceedings pending the completion of a competency evaluation of Cable, who is being held with no bond. He could not be reached for comment.
The Indiana Lawyer reached out to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana Supreme Court for comment but has not heard back.
According to charging documents, Cable has a documented history of intimidating members of the Indiana Supreme Court.
On May 14, Indiana State Police were notified of a certified letter addressed to Rush containing threats that made Rush fear for her safety, charging documents state. In a handwritten narrative, Cable claimed that he’s been preparing to “perform a life hysterectomy on all of those who have caused my family so much irreparable harm,” while saying that all he thinks of is death, according to the documents. The letter does not use Rush’s name specifically.
Along with the letter were sovereign citizen-style legal documents, including documents that were notarized in 2016, and a “failure to appear” document from May 5, 2026, listing Cable as the sender and Rush as the recipient. The failure to appear letter contains “legal-styled verbiage that fails to convey a clear and understandable purpose,” according to the affidavit.
The document concludes with what appears to be a direct threat to Rush and her family, stating, “Your families will be murdered, maimed, mutilated, tortured, torn-to-pieces and strung up to the rafters.”
According to the affidavit, Rush said that although she has received threats in the past, this threat was egregious enough that it stood out from all others and has caused her to fear for her own safety and the safety of her family.
Cable is being held with no bond and is undergoing a competency evaluation, according to MyCase.
The case is State of Indiana v. Michael James Cable, 49D21-2605-F5-014915.
