An Indianapolis man was sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for his role in several armed robberies at massage parlors in September and October 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Roy King, 42, was sentenced to eight years and one month in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to three counts of interference with commerce by robbery and one count of attempted robbery.

In September 2023, King reportedly robbed three massage parlors in Indianapolis, holding employees at gunpoint and demanding cash during each of them.

Before he was caught, he tried to rob a fourth parlor on Oct. 8. During the attempted robbery, he brandished a TV remote, acting like it was a gun, court documents state.

“Four different times, three of them at gunpoint, the defendant chose to terrorize innocent people who had the misfortune to work at a business this violent criminal decided to target. Each time, he made them fear for their lives just so he could steal a few hundred dollars,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “Armed, repeat criminals are a menace to our communities and must be held accountable. The federal prison sentence imposed here demonstrates that this violent lawlessness will carry serious consequences.”

King has a criminal history dating back to 2003, including convictions tied to assault with a deadly weapon, gang activity and distributing controlled substances.
