About every six weeks, IndyBar is fortunate to provide a representative of the legal community to participate in a Naturalization Ceremony at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana to welcome newly naturalized American citizens. It’s an awe-inspiring ceremony — and you can be a part of it.

Indianapolis Bar Association attorney members participate in the naturalization ceremonies by typically making brief remarks and handing out a lapel pin containing the U.S. and Indiana flags affixed to a card containing resources that may be helpful. Ceremonies are typically held on Thursdays at 10 a.m. Locations vary but are typically held at the downtown U.S. Courthouse.

This is a happy occasion that the IndyBar is proud to be a part of, and it’s an exceedingly positive moment to witness as a bar representative. The presiding federal judges are typically in high spirits and the new citizens are happy and proud, surrounded by beaming family members.

The volunteer commitment includes picking up the materials for the new citizens at IndyBarHQ and attending the approximately one-hour ceremony. Sample remarks are also provided.

If you would like to volunteer to be a backup representative for the IndyBar at the naturalization ceremonies during 2023 visit indybar.org/naturalization.•
