The IndyBar President’s Update is a regular feature where we share what’s been happening behind the scenes, celebrate wins, and give you a sense of where we’re headed. It’s a way to keep everyone in the loop, reflect on what we’ve accomplished together, and look ahead to what’s next.

• Sunday, November 30, was IndyBar’s Founder’s Day! IndyBar is proud to celebrate 147 years of serving and supporting the legal community. Since 1878, IndyBar has been a trusted home for connection, education, and leadership. Thank you to our members for being an essential part of this history. We’re excited to continue shaping the future of our legal community together.

• We hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving. It’s no secret that ours is a challenging profession, but one that we have much to be grateful for. The work you each do on a daily basis is a true blessing to so many. As we enter this holiday season, I hope you will join us for one of the many celebratory gatherings sponsored by various bar groups, and if your schedule doesn’t allow know that we look forward to seeing you in the new year.

• We are in the middle of organizing our annual remembrance program for lawyers that have passed on in 2025. We don’t want to miss anyone, so if you know of someone we should be recognizing, please don’t hesitate to email Deneen Fitzgerald at [email protected] to make certain they are included. To be among our honorees the person must have lived in Marion County and/or have been an IndyBar member.

• On Demand CLE Available 24/7: Hundreds of on demand CLE programs are available in our online catalog to take advantage. Just visit our website at indybar.org. You’ll note that many programs are free, too. Our sections and divisions work hard throughout the year to provide you with timely and engaging content that we record for your convenience. Don’t waste time and money watching programming you don’t care about through one of the many for profit providers. Visit indybar.org when you need a break from work or family members looking for free advice (just kidding).

• Help us make a difference in our community! Scan your shelves and donate gently used or new books at any of the below drop off locations between Dec. 1 and Dec. 5. This year, our Book Drive will benefit the Indy Book Project and the Court of Appeals Library. The Indy Book Project seeks to ensure all children have access to books in their home. They collect gently used or new books appropriate for ages 0-18 from the community, sort them, and then distribute the books to community centers, schools, and other locations that serve youth. The Court of Appeals is working to establish small libraries within each county courthouse where people can just take a book to read while they’re waiting (and take it home afterwards). Books for all ages are appreciated.

Drop Off Locations:

• IndyBarHQ

• Paganelli Law Group

• McCarter & English LLP

• Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law
