• The Indianapolis Bar Association—alongside the Indianapolis Bar Foundation, the Marion County Bar Association, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Indiana, IndyBar’s LAMBDA Committee, and IndyBar’s Hispanic Lawyer’s Division—successfully hosted U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson for an historic luncheon on Thursday, July 10. The room had over 1,000 attendees waiting on each word Justice Jackson spoke. It was truly an incredible experience, arguably one of the most memorable of my career. Special thanks to Julie Armstrong, Hon. Jane Magnus Stinson, Hon. Doris L. Pryor, the IndyBar Staff, and all of our volunteers for pulling off this magnificent event.
• The IndyBar Foundation recently selected its 2025 Community Empowerment Grant Recipient. I’d like to say ‘job well done’ to foundation president, Bri Clark, and the Community Empowerment Grant Committee, co-steered by Alex Limontes and Deborah Pollack-Millgate. Their committee was instrumental in attracting over 20 applicants. The IndyBar Foundation Fellows voted to ultimately choose Exodus Refugee to receive the $35,000 grant. More information on the grant and the process can be found at www.indybarfoundation.org.
• The association’s nominating committee is requesting applications of interest for the 2026 Board of Directors. Donnie Morgan of Taft is chairing the committee. Vacancies to be filled include five (5) Directors, Treasurer, and 1st Vice President (2028 President). The short form can be found at www.indybar.org/nominate and applications are being accepted through August 15. Believe me the time commitment is very manageable and the networking and visibility you gain for your practice is immeasurable.
• It is with deep sadness that I report that our esteemed Past President (2015), John Trimble, passed away on July 2. John devoted his entire legal career to Lewis Wagner and Trimble. He was a fierce advocate for IndyBar where he received the highest award given by IndyBar, the Luminary Award. John supported many other legal and charitable organizations where his leadership, professionalism and mentorship benefited so many. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his wife Anne and his daughters and grandchildren as well as his extended family. He will be missed, but never forgotten!•
