Tim Karns

By Tim Karns, Wagner Reese LLP

For many, fall signals the return of sweater weather, tailgating season (Boiler Up!) and children returning to school. This last activity often causes one to reminisce fondly on the carefree life of a teenager. Proof of this concept can be found in the latest viral TikTok trend — the “Teenage Dirtbag” photomontage.

If you are unfamiliar with the #TeenageDirtbag concept, it involves displaying photos of your high school self — especially those that depict a crazy hair style, outlandish fashion choice and/or a cringe worthy situation — while the classic 2000 single “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus plays in the background. This viral sensation has become the craze du jour of celebrities known for their “dirtbag” tendencies.

After googling Wheatus and Teenage Dirtbag, I bet you are wondering how you too can highlight your #TeenageDirtbag propensities to your friends, colleagues and — most importantly — the judiciary. Fear not, the IndyBar Foundation has a solution for you!

On Friday, Sept. 30, the IndyBar Foundation will be hosting Law Prom at The Alexander hotel in downtown Indianapolis. The event begins at begins at 7 p.m. and will feature live entertainment courtesy of DJ Kenny, plentiful food stations and several open bars. This is your opportunity to recreate your iconic style choices from days gone by and capture those moments for your devoted social media followers. In fact, the opportunities for #selfies will be endless at the Indy legal community’s favorite night out!

Your night out on the town will also support the IndyBar Foundation-funded programs. The IndyBar Foundation’s annual grants help ensure that students, the elderly, individuals experiencing homelessness and local families in our community have access to the legal services they need. By attending Law Prom, you will not only be guaranteeing yourself a fantastic evening, but you will also be doing your part to ensure that all citizens in Indianapolis have equal access to justice.

But what prom would be complete without a prom court? Several of your fellow IndyBar Association & Foundation members and supporters will be vying to become the inaugural king and queen of Law Prom. This contest, however, will not be decided based on a contestant’s beauty or charm. Instead, the winners will be the individuals who raise the most funds for the IndyBar Foundation.

The identities of the Prom Court were revealed at the IndyBar’s Got Talent show on Aug. 27. Details on how to donate to your favorite candidate will be posted on the IndyBar and Foundation’s social media channels beginning on Sept. 6.

Finally, the IndyBar Foundation has reserved a room block at The Alexander for Law Prom attendees. Rooms are limited and going fast! Be sure to visit indybar.org/lawprom for details on how register for Law Prom and to reserve your room at The Alexander. I look forward to seeing all of you at this wonderful event!•
