Indianapolis-based Krieg DeVault LLP is expanding again, with the firm announcing the acquisition of Fort-Wayne-based Rothberg Law Firm.

Rothberg , which has with 12 legal professionals, will merge with Krieg DeVault, effective Jan. 1, 2026.

It is the second firm that Krieg DeVault has acquired within the past year, following their addition of Chicago’s Fuchs & Roselli, Ltd., in January.

“Our clients’ needs continue to drive our growth into new and existing markets,” said Michael Messaglia, managing partner of Krieg DeVault, in a released statement. “Fort Wayne is the second-largest market in Indiana, and having a local presence is part of the firm’s long-term growth strategy. Through our firm’s strategic vision, we strive to deliver exceptional and innovative service to our clients whenever and wherever they need us. The professionals at Rothberg share the same philosophy as Krieg DeVault in ensuring we provide our clients with responsive and high-quality service that helps them reach their goals.”

Krieg DeVault is the ninth largest law firm in the Indianapolis area, according to research from the Indianapolis Business Journal, with 72 local attorneys.

Founded in 1952, Rothberg characterizes itself as one of northeast Indiana’s most established firms, with 12 professionals covering a wide range of areas, such as corporate, employment, government and health care law, among others.

Messaglia said combining the two firms would strengthen some of Krieg DeVault’s key service areas of banking, business, employment, health care, real estate, municipal and estate planning.

“When we started discussing a combination, it became clear that Krieg DeVault would be a perfect fit for the evolution of Rothberg,” said Susan Trent, Rothberg’s managing partner, in the announcement. “Having access to the full range of services that Krieg DeVault offers allows us to expand our offerings to both current
and future clients in northeast Indiana and beyond.”

At the start of the new year, Rothberg will take on the Krieg DeVault name while remaining in its Fort Wayne location.

“Combining with Krieg DeVault allows us to significantly expand the scope of legal services critical to our clients’ success and to our community momentum,” Trent said. “We are very excited about what the future holds for our firm.”

Along with their outreach into Chicago this year, Krieg DeVault has offices across Indiana, including Indianapolis, Carmel, Crown Point and Mishawaka.
