Senior Judge Kathleen Lang has been appointed judge pro tempore in Lake Superior Court, Criminal Division 3, filling the seat vacated by the unexpected death of Judge Diane Ross Boswell on Oct. 19.

The Indiana Supreme Court issued the order appointing Lang on Oct. 27 in In the Matter of Appointment of a Judge Pro Tempore in the Lake Superior Court, Criminal Div. 3, 21S-MS-487. Lang will remain in the appointed position until further order of the court.

Boswell, 72, had served on the Lake County bench since her 2005 appointment by then-Gov. Mitch Daniels. She built a long career in public service and is remembered by colleagues as hardworking and compassionate.

Lang, a graduate of the Chicago-Kent College of Law, took senior status in 2015 after serving more than nine years as a judge on the LaPorte Superior Court. She is currently an adjunct professor at both her alma mater and Notre Dame Law School.
